This black microwave looks great in out kitchen with the other black appliances. It works extremely well and contains all of the convenient features needed for the foods we eat. Overall it was simple to install. It is very quiet while using and fan is powerful but not super loud. I love how simple and straightforward it is to use, even my kids could use the basic functions without help. This is my second one of this microwave. First one lasted less than two years. When turned on it kept causing the breaker to shut off (and...yes...it was on its own circuit!). After the fact, I read many reviews of this happening to others. I replaced it with the same model because it matched my other GE appliances and I like the look. Bought this Microwave because it was 1 of only 2 or 3 that fit my existing over the range cutout. Good basic Microwave. +PROS+ * Compact for being a 1.6cu ft microwave * 1000 watts * One of the quietest exhaust fans - especially in the under $400 price range * bright overhead surface lights * surface lights have 2 brightness levels which is nice _CONS_ - NO mute/silence feature for bleep speaker - Must click "Cook Time" to enter custom cool time. You can't just enter 1min 20sec like most microwaves - The location of the cook time and timer buttons seem reversed. With the timer button being closer to the number pad than the cool time button. I should hav read the reviews before purchasing this over the stove microwave. The door glass dogs when using the fan to vent stovetop cooking outside of the house. GE's solution is to leave the door open for 20 minutes to allow it to dry. POOR DESIGN. I had GE microwaves for 30 years and this is the first one with this problem. I am also disappointed with the clock color. A white display is much harder to see than green and does not match my other GE products. The door feels and sounds poorly made. A template made of cardboard would make the install much easier. I used some existing cardboard and attached the template to simplify. I don't like the default defrost by pound Instead of by time. Love this over the range microwave! "Good" rating was given to it, however, because there is not a backlight for the key pad and the door closure is noisy. Previous microwave we purchased was the same make and model (had the same 2 issues). It quit working after 3 years of daily use. Since it was no longer under warranty, we had to remove it, take it to be serviced (it was a fuse), and then reinstall it. The next day we tried to use it, it quit working again. I ordered the new microwave. In the meantime, my husband worked on the old one and purchased a new fuse, installed the fuse; and now, the old microwave works too!! I love this GE microwave. After using a GE Spacemaker over the counter microwave for over 20 years, we finally replaced it with a new GE microwave. You really don't realize how much you use a microwave and how much you miss one until it goes out and needs replacing. After a few days, our new GE microwave was installed and we have been delighted by its performance. It has all the features we need and was very cost attractive. The only improvement I would suggest is backlighting of the control panel. We had to replace our previous GE microwave because the panel went out on most features. We had purchased it in 2008. The cost of repacking the part was almost as expensive as the new one. Installing the new part would have been easy but it didn't make sense when something else could go wrong in the future. Having a really old microwave before this new one is a pleasure! My only complaint is the light bulbs were glued in. I wanted to use my LED lights from my old microwave (since they were crazy expensive!). What a pain to change them out! And of course, the 2 step light won't work with them. We purchased this micro, when our GE micro failed after 9 years. What's nice with this unit, the inside capacity is slightly larger, larger turntable, wall mount was straight forward. Unfortunately, the mounting brackets between both units were different size as well as the top holes for the screws. Template was ok for upper hole location, however I did have to elongate the holes. Just purchased this on 7/26/2020. Took me less than 10 minutes to select this model. I had been looking online for what I wanted but final decision was made when I saw it. No bells and whistles. It has all I need in a microwave. Have a couple friends who have recently purchased all new GE appliances and they are extremely satisfied. I think I will be too! Easy to install.
